Lieutenant Governor

Constitution candidate uneasy about entitlements

JEFFERSON CITY — James Rensing, the Constitution Party candidate for lieutenant governor, acknowledges he might not be the obvious choice for office.

But, he said, many residents cast a vote for Republicans or Democrats each election without feeling completely comfortable about their decision.

"People should vote with their conscience and their opinions and what they believe in," he said. "We should have three, four, five, six parties running the government. I think that would be better for everyone."

Conservative ideals, economic goals drive Kinder re-election bid

JEFFERSON CITY — Toward the end of the workday Oct. 9, Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder leaned back in an office chair with legs crossed and shoes off.

Democrat says he'll bring reform as lieutenant governor

JEFFERSON CITY — Sam Page paused before sitting down for an interview Oct. 12 to tell his wife he'd be longer than he had expected. She could go ahead and head out with the kids.

Libertarian believes state government must be streamlined

JEFFERSON CITY — Teddy Fleck, the Libertarian candidate for lieutenant governor, said he stands for lower taxes, smaller government and returning power from the federal government back to individual states.

Fleck, of Springfield, was a Republican for 27 years before changing parties.

"They're all big government anymore, and they don't represent the people," Fleck said of his reason for defecting from the GOP.

The 46-year-old served 13 years in the U.S. Army, eventually reaching the rank of sergeant first class. Since 1992, he has worked as a truck driver.
